Listen to a Good Book
We all know the joy of being read to: following the patterns of a reader’s voice while he or she brings a story to life, creates characters in our mind’s eye, and carries us into new worlds.
Thanks to a grant this past summer, the CHMS Library has purchased several book titles on CD and MP3. Students may check books out on CD or MP3. In order to listen to books on MP3, students need to check out an MP3 player from the Library. Because of the replacement costs for these players, we ask that parents sign a release form before their children check them out. These forms will come home with students the first time they want to check out books on MP3.
Listening to books read aloud is a great avenue to reading independently. It gives listeners a sense of story, an auditory grasp of events. Furthermore, listeners are very often introduced to more complex vocabulary and concepts in a context that makes sense, enriching their learning experiences. On top of it all, it’s fun! So have your kids come in and listen to a good book.
