The Mount Rushmore of Children's Literature

It's big, it's bold, it's beautiful, isn't it? When you see it for the first time, it's hard not to be awed by the size, the hard work that went into shaping a mountain into the faces of four iconic U.S. presidents. George Washington's nose alone is 21 feet tall! Set in the Black Hills in South Dakota, Mount Rushmore has attracted millions of tourists yearly since construction began in 1924.

Who are the four presidents on Mt. Rushmore?

If you were going to commission a Mt. Rushmore of Children's Literature, which authors' faces would you put on the mountain?

Show me your creation in the form of a Google Drawing.
Here's how:

  1. Click on this image of Mt. Rushmore, and then save the image to use as a backdrop.
  2. In your Google Drive, open a New Google Drawing.
  3. Insert an image, and upload the image of Mt. Rushmore. Make sure it fills your whole palette.
  4. Figure out which authors' faces you want to put in place of the presidents' faces.
  5. Search for authors, being sure to follow this guide:
  6. Crop the authors' pictures to get just their faces, and place them in the proper area.
  7. Name and save your finished drawing, and share it with Mr. Madden (
  8. How many of the authors that other people chose can you identify?
